THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union annual meeting that was initially set for Prince Edward School sports pavilion on Sunday has been postponed as most of the affiliates have not yet held similar meetings at their level.

According to ZRU vice-president Colleen de Jong, the meeting will now take place on March 24 at the same venue.

This will be the first time that the meeting will be held during the week, breaking away from the tradition that saw the union holding meetings on Sunday when most of the affiliates are able to travel and attend.

De Jong yesterday told The Herald that only the Matabeleland Rugby Football Board, the Zimbabwe Rugby Referees Society and the National Association of Secondary and Primary Heads have held their annual meetings while the other seven are yet to comply.

“All other affiliates are yet to hold their annual meetings and so far only the schools, Matabeleland rugby and the referees have managed to do so but we are yet to get their reports as well and this is the main reason we have pushed the meeting dates forward,” said the former Young Sables team manager.

According to the ZRU constitution, the annual meeting was supposed to have been held by the end of January, with the Union having give a 30-day notice to its affiliated members but none of them had managed to hold their meetings and submit the reports in time for the national body to hold the indaba.

“At least thirty (30) days’ notice of an Annual General Meeting shall be given to those members entitled to receive notice (to be held within the first month of the calendar year as determined by the National Executive Board),” reads section 16.3 of the ZRU constitution.
