THE Zimbabwe Golf Association has named a provisional team to represent the country at this year’s Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship at Limuru Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya.

The prestigious Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship will be held for the first time in the East African country from 12-16 October.

ZGA has named seasoned campaigners, Visitor Mapwanya, Kieran Vincent, David Amm, Robson Chinhoi and Tonderai Masunga, who were in the top ten of the order of merit standings after the Bata Power.

The tournament will see more than 16 African countries taking part in the continental golf tournament that has been hosted, in the past, by South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, Namibia and Egypt.

When the AAGTC was held in Swaziland last year, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Botswana, Mozambique, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Uganda and Namibia were represented.

The AAGTC is played in Eisenhower Format. Each team consists of four players but only the best three scores per round will count towards the team total.

The country with the lowest gross score at the end of the championship will be crowned the AAGTC champion.

There is also a prize for the overall individual winner.

Entries are only open to any amateur with an official handicap, and are a member of a Golf Club affiliated to a Union recognised by the African Golf Confederation. The competition is played over 72 holes.
