ZIMBABWE all-rounder Sean Williams came right for Brothers Union with a half-century that helped propel the side to their first win in the 2016 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. In their second round match against Kalabagan Cricket Academy on Thursday, Williams top-scored with 70 runs from 81 balls, which included eight boundaries with one of them a maximum.

He also starred in a 125-run partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Tushar Imran, which was broken when Irfan Sukkur stumped the Zimbabwean off the bowling of Bishawnath Halder.

The stand was all the more crucial towards the Brothers Union cause as it came after they had been pegged 72 for three in the 18th over, following run-out dismissals for openers Shahriar Nafees (26) and Nafees Iqbal (13) and a 16-run effort by number three Zakir Hasan.

Imran was unbeaten on an 89-ball 67 when Brothers Union reached the victory target with six wickets in hand and 27 balls remaining. The day began with Brothers Union winning the toss in the DPL match at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and sending KCA in to bat.

They made 213 runs for seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Mahmudul Hasan top-scored with 54 runs and Sukkur added 42. However, Williams did not have any luck with the ball, conceding 24 runs for no return in five overs.

Brothers Union will play their third match of the 2016 DPL on Saturday, against Abahani Limited, while Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza’s Kalabagan Krira Chakra have theirs against Prime Bank, also on the same day. — Zimcricket.
