LONDON. — Arsene Wenger has insisted Arsenal will not panic buy to sign a striker, if Olivier Giroud is ruled out for a lengthy spell.
Arsenal were yesterday waiting to learn the full extent of the ankle injury Giroud suffered in last weekend’s draw at Everton amid fears the France international could be out until the New Year.
If Giroud is sidelined for the first half of the season, Wenger has been tipped to move for a new striker, with the likes of Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck and Queens Park Rangers’ Loic Remy linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

However, with less than a week to go before the transfer window closes, Wenger will not be forced into signing a replacement for Giroud.
“We have plenty of players at centre-forward. In England as soon as you have a problem, people want you to buy,” he said.

“Unfortunately, I can give you some clubs that every time they lose a game they say they might need to buy more.
“I’ve learnt one thing in our job – you say nothing categorically.”

This means the club have no intention of recruiting any forwards on a permanent deal in this summer’s transfer window.
Gunners manager Wenger will now assess the loan market.

The Frenchman plans to stick with his existing options of Alexis Sanchez, Joel Campbell, Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott.
France striker Giroud (27) was yesterday due to see a specialist to assess the extent of the injury, picked up in the Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Everton.

There are fears he has broken his ankle and that he could be ruled out for up to three months.
An update on the results of a second scan — carried out after the swelling had gone down — is likely to come after last night’s Champions League play-off second leg against Besiktas.

Giroud came off the bench to score the Gunners’ equaliser in the 90th minute at Goodison Park but picked up the injury in the closing seconds of the game. Arsenal still hope to sign another versatile centre-back or holding midfielder who can potentially perform both roles — as back-up for what they already have available to them.  — Sky Sports.
