Wenger meets Vardy Arsene Wenger

LONDON. — Jamie Vardy has met Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for talks over a £20 million move.

The Leicester striker (29) had face-to-face discussions with the Gunners chief in London on Friday morning ahead of a switch. And Vardy’s move to Arsenal was getting closer as he was scheduled to undergo a medical yesterday.

Should Arsenal secure the services of Vardy, it will be their second signing of the summer after they agreed to a £30 million deal for VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Vardy enjoyed a lot of success in the recently concluded season as he scored 24 goals and notched up eight assists in all competitions.

Wenger triggered the England star’s buy-out clause, which allowed negotiations to start. The forward was given time off after playing in the Three Lions’ friendly with Portugal on Thursday.

The Gunners are now trying to do a deal before the Euros as Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson does not want transfer distractions. Reports in Italy claim Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri was asked if Arsenal had made an offer and replied: “It’s all true.”

The Gunners will pay the fee if personal terms are agreed.

And Vardy’s former club Fleetwood will be in line for a £6,8 million windfall thanks to a sell-on clause. — The Sun.
