Walking in Spirit: Persecution

Psalm 109:5-8 NIV; They repay me evil for good and hatred for my friendship. Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand. When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.”

How many times have you sighed in distress after learning or being told about the actions of those around you? It could be a friend, a colleague or a superior who has been working to persecute you.

Through their actions you have been stressed beyond measure and you have shed many a tear in anguish.

Persecution is a form of torment many people can relate to. It is the words spoken or actions taken that cause immense pain and hurt. While having a conversation with a friend of mine, she told me how her immediate boss had caused her so much pain.

He was going out of his way to make the workplace environment difficult for her. Everything she would do was wrong, she was criticised, humiliated, demoted and made to feel small. These actions coupled with verbal attacks continued for many years. One day as she prayed the Lord revealed Psalm 109 to her, with specific references to verse 5-8, 16-17 and 29.

You may be going through a difficult time right now. You have fasted and prayed and the Lord seems not to be hearing you. Let me assure you that the Lord is faithful, the Lord is gracious and the Lord always honours those who humble themselves before Him.

Our Father answers our prayers in His time and as per His will. He sees far beyond where we see and He has already seen the course of action He will take with our accusers and tormentors.

Take heart in knowing that God remains God and He is on His throne directing the affairs of this world and more importantly your affairs.

A few months after the Lord revealed this verse to my friend her boss was fired, years later he stands accused in a court of law, fighting for his very existence.

The Lord promises that though you may be persecuted today, He will restore your dignity, fight your battles and ultimately hand a might victory to you.

Be patient in prayer and be strengthened by His word. It’s only a matter of time, all shall be well. Remember to wait on Him.

Be Blessed.
