2 Corinthians 9 vs 7

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Have you noticed that, as human beings most of our prayers are the same, they are usually made up of endless requests to the Lord. We ask for all sorts of things, big and small. Our cries are endless, “I want this . . . want that . . . if only you could do this for me, so that I do the following . . .”

The bulk of the prayers are self-centred, selfish requests that are aimed at gratifying our own personal desires. We expect and want God to answer and respond, nothing short of the answer yes is good enough.

However, when the same is asked of us we fail the test dismally, we expect to receive, but we cannot give. Our lives work on the basis that, if my requests are acceded to then all is fine, yet we have so many people making requests of us.

When people seek assistance from us, in most cases we have the capacity to assist, but we choose to turn a blind eye. We look for every excuse under the sun as to why we cannot help yet we diligently ask of the Lord.

Stinginess, coupled with a mean spirit, is one of the worst character traits anyone can have. It’s a given that man is flawed, that he is inherently evil and that his only saving grace is the presence of God in his heart and life.

However, we are all bound by the same rules, as you ask you too shall freely give as is given unto you. We make the false assumption that as long as the benefit is one sided then prophecy is being fulfilled.

Yet each of us has been called to make a difference in the lives of others, God looks at the heart of man, those that give freely he will in turn bless abundantly.

It is odd that we ignore the cries of those we have been tasked with blessing. The bible says the lord will say “you turned me away in my hour of need.”

Some of the people in our lives are challenges that are meant to test us.

The majority of us fail this test over and over again.

We are given endless opportunities to let go of the things we value, in the hope that we may learn that the same God who has given can give even more abundantly if only we could trust him to do so.

Be Blessed
