People of Manicaland must continue to be guided by the principles and ethics of dedication, hard work and selflessness displayed by thousands of young men and women who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Zimbabwe, a senior official has said.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Monica Mutsvangwa made the remarks at the burial of liberation war hero, Major Henry Godza Tadzungaira at the Manicaland Provincial Heroes Acre on Friday.

Cde Tadzungaira, who was born on June 6, 1961 in Shamva District, Mashonaland Central province, collapsed and died in Harare on January 10.

He was 57.

In a speech read on her behalf by the deputy director for provincial affairs in her office, Mr Luckson Bhasopo, Minister Mutsvangwa said the nation should never forget the illustrious boldness and commitment displayed by Major Tadzungaira and other like-minded young Zimbabweans who sacrificed their lives to liberate their land.

Cde Tadzungaira did his primary education at Nyamaruro from 1968 to 1974 and did his secondary education at Bradley in 1977 before the school was closed by the Rhodesian forces that same year in March.

Cde Tadzungaira joined other young Zimbabweans in crossing to Mozambique and got his first training at Tembwe Base 4.

He went to Romania for further training.

After training, he was deployed in Manicaland and at ceasefire, he went to Dzapasi Chiurwi (Fox Assembly Point) in Buhera.

In March 1981, Cde Tadzungaira was integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army as a private officer.

He was then posted to Zimbabwe Intelligence Corps as an operative up to 2001.

It was also the same year Cde Tadzungaira was posted to 5 Education Company and was stationed at Ngezi.

He was then posted to HQ Presidential Guard where he served as Brigade Education Officer until the time of his untimely death.

Cde Tadzungaira is survived by his wife Faith Matienga and eight children.
