LONDON. — Liverpool have cancelled a proposed meeting with Raheem Sterling’s agent after he publicly stated the England international would not sign a new contract under any circumstances and even if he was offered “£900 000 a week”.

Sterling’s representative Aidy Ward was due to hold talks with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and chief executive Ian Ayre at Melwood today, but that get-together has now been shelved after he outlined his agenda in a newspaper interview.

Ayre has informed Ward of the change of plan.

Liverpool see no reason to hold a meeting when Ward’s position over his client is set and is so far removed from their own desire for Sterling to extend his time at Anfield.

Ward spoke to the London Evening Standard in which he said stated Sterling, who has two years left on a £35 000-a-week deal, would not resign.

“He is definitely not signing,” said Ward. “He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing.

“My job is to make sure I do the best with them (my clients). If people say I am bad at my job, or they are badly advised it does not matter.”

That stance is at odds with Liverpool, who have already told Ward that they do not intend to sell Sterling this summer. The player has rejected a £100 000-a-week deal.

Sterling’s agent had earlier launched a staggering defence of the Liverpool striker — and claims he is likely to join Chelsea or Manchester City.

British football’s biggest transfer saga then exploded into controversy yesterday with Sterling’s representative Ward going on the attack.

Sterling’s agent has fuelled the fire surrounding the player’s contract standoff with Liverpool by saying the England winger would not sign a new deal at Anfield — even for ₤900 000 a week.

The 20-year-old has developed a reputation as one of England’s brightest young prospects, but has been at the centre of media frenzy in recent months surrounding his contract negotiations.

Manchester United yesterday said they are not joining the race for the England international, who is also being pursued by City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Sky sources understand that Sterling is not on Manchester United’s radar and they have no plans to sign him.

Reports yesterday claimed United had made an enquiry with their Premier League rivals over the prospect of signing the 20-year-old, but Sky believes that not to be the case.

But the man who holds the power over Sterling’s next move has suggested he is most likely to head to the Etihad or Stamford Bridge — because he will NOT be signing a new deal at Anfield.

Ward has been criticised for his handling of Sterling (20) but he has angrily hit back at Reds legends Graeme Souness, Mark Lawrenson and most aggressively Jamie Carragher.

“Carragher is a k**b,” Ward told London Evening Standard.

“Any of the criticism from current pundits or ex-Liverpool players — none of them things matter to me. It is not relevant.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea reportedly want Theo Walcott or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in exchange for Petr Cech.

Cech is widely tipped to leave Stamford Bridge, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all after him.

A fee of £10 million could be enough to capture his signature.

Though Arsenal have been lining up their targets, The Sun claim Chelsea want one of the Gunners’ stars as exchange for Cech.

A Stamford Bridge source told the paper: “Arsene Wenger want a top keeper from us, Cech. Well, in exchange, we would like Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“They may not be in the Arsenal team but we are convinced Jose Mourinho could make them into top players again.”

Walcott’s contract situation remains uncertain, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has missed large chunks of the season through injury. — The Daily Express-Sky Sports.
