THE Sports Commission have ordered the Zimbabwe Handball Federation to hold their cancelled elections before November 15.

This is the second time the Sports Commission are intervening in the ZHF affairs after the federation defied their directive in July to hold the elections before the end of August.

The national handball mother-body was supposed to elect a new executive in March when the Amon Madzvamuse-led executive’s term of office expired but the elections set for Kariba were cancelled on the day that they were supposed to take place.

The ZHF then held the elections in May in Harare which ushered in vice-president Simbiso Mpepereki as the new president deputised by Alphios Magiya.

However, Madzvamuse disputed the outcome of the elections as he declared that the extraordinary general meeting, which ousted him, was unconstitutional and should be declared null and void.

The Sports Commission then ordered the ZHF to hold another election before the end of August and they were scheduled for August 29 at Nyameni High School in Marondera where they could not take place again.

Sports co-ordinator for Mashonaland East, Tellmore Chibanda, who had been appointed observer for the elections by the Sports Commission, said the ZHF failed to observe their constitution, resulting in the cancellation of the elections.

Some of the issues highlighted include disagreement among the ZHF members concerning the presiding officer, confirmation of the electorate which was done by the president instead of the secretary-general.

There were reports also that the president (Madzvamuse) produced his own list of the electorate which was different from the one that was circulated.

And the issue was presented to the Sports Commission to come up with a solution to the chaos and controversy that has become the norm when it comes to the national federation’s elections.

Sports Commission’s sport development manager, Martin Dururu, yesterday said they have instructed the ZHF president Madzvamuse and secretary-general Magiya to hold the elections before November 15 and they will set up an independent electoral committee to oversee the process.
