Dancehall star Shinsoman yesterday got thumbs up from his fans when he featured on Star FM’s popular Breakfast Club co-hosted by Comfort “Mbofs” Mbofana and Bongai “Zam” Zamchiya.
Affectionately known by his legion of fans as “The Dancehall Fada”, Shinsoman had his female fans going bananas during the phone-in programme.

“Kana zvichinzi waakupenga, taakutopenga tese (If they say you’re crazy then we’re all crazy,” said one fan.
Another fan said Shinsoman was way ahead of the other dancehall chanters.
“Haa Shinsoman ari kumberi senext year but one,” one fan said.

When asked about being involved in a car crash and death reports, Shinsoman laughed it off.
“Well, a lot of things have been said about me with some claiming that I was dead. There is no truth in that,” he said.
Shinsoman, whose real name is Romeo Anthony, is a father to Devante.

What was all the more starling was that Shinsoman on stage is different from Romeo whom you see him in the streets.
When not on stage, he is soft-spoken and laid back. It turns out that his deep husky voice only comes out during live performances whether that makes him real or fake is neither here nor there.

Arguably the best chanter and biggest find for this year, Shinsoman said he had no competition since he was in a class of his own.
True to his words, Shinsoman who was signed to Heshi Mufeshi Records is the one to beat in dancehall. Buoyed by the success of his two singles  — “Waya Waya” and “Bata Panorwadza” — in which he laces his powerful vocals on “duplin riddim”.

If there was an award for best dancehall act it got to be Shinsoman and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him clinch a National Arts Merit Award next year.

Of course, there are other chanters who make up that list of best dancehall acts including Dhadza D, Guspy Warrior and Killer T of the “Popopopo” fame.

The Thursday Breakfast Club, which airs on Star FM starting from 6am to 9am, is a must tune-in show as it features guest artistes similar to BET’s 106&Park where they invite artistes to perform live in the studio spiced with interviews.
