SHABANIE Mine boosted their chances to avoid relegation when they beat Hwange at Maglas yesterday. The Chinda Boys got the solitary goal from Richard Kawondera who capitalised on a mistake by Hwange goalkeeper Collen Phiri who spilled a Farai Mupasiri free-kick in the 63rd minute. Shabanie had the best chances of the afternoon as they started piling pressure from the early stages of the match which saw them creating goal scoring chances.

The goal margin could have been wider but the home side players failed to capitalise. After the goal, Hwange then replaced injured keeper Phiri but the damage had already been done. Hwange player Wilfred Munorwei was shown a straight red just before the referee blew for full time after a crude foul on a Shabanie Mine player. Shabanie Mine coach Takesure Chiragwi said he was happy with the three points, adding that his side will not be relegated.

“We are really happy we got three points, like I have said before we really wanted to win no matter how we are going to play.
“The most important thing is to get maximum points so we have done it and we are very happy,” said Chiragwi. Losing coach Bigboy Mawiwi said despite a strong fighting spirit, his team had lost. He, however, cried foul over incidences whereby balls were being thrown onto the pitch to delay play, describing it as the worst game he had seen as a coach.

“We came with confidence and we wanted to win this game, you saw the fighting spirit that was in our players until the final whistle although there were a lot of disturbances. To me this was the worst game I have seen as a coach whereby three or four balls one after another are thrown into the pitch but I give credit to the referees they allowed play to go on because the home supporters wanted to disrupt play.

“We were very unfortunate when we conceded that goal,” said Mawiwi. Mawiwi said it was unfortunate that their goalkeeper conceded just before they substituted him following an injury.
