A serial rapist from Mayo Resettlement area, Makoni District, has been jailed for 10 years after he was caught red-handed raping his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter.

Mubvumbi Manyange (69), who was once jailed for the same offence and released through Presidential amnesty, was slapped with the lengthy jail term when he appeared before Rusape magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza. The 2016 Presidential amnesty, which freed Manyange, was meant for terminally-ill prisoners and inmates who were above 60 years.

Prosecutor Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira told the court that on December 4 last year, the 10-year-old girl left her parents’ homestead at around 4pm to play with Manyange’s granddaughter. After a while, her brother followed her and asked her to return home.

But the two used different routes back home. Unfortunately for the minor, she met Manyange along the way, who weirdly asked her for sexual favours. It is the State’s case that after being turned down, Manyange grabbed the girl and dragged her into the bushes.

He then threatened to kill her if she continued resisting his sexual advances. Manyange subsequently undressed the girl and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. The minor’s brother, who became worried about his sister’s delay, decided to look for her. That is when Manyange was caught with his pants at knee level sexually attacking the girl. The minor’s parents reported the matter to the police.
