CHISIPITE High School Student Ratidzo Mutangadura was the star of the show when she swept four gold medals during the Mutare City Pool annual national sprint gala on Saturday. Mutangadura of Highlands Club was the stand-out swimmer of the tourney when she took a clean sweep of four gold medals and amassed 40 points after winning in the 50 metre breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and free style.

The 16-year-old Chisipite O-Level student finished 17 points clear of her nearest rival Rutendo Maruta of Sharks in her age-group.
Such was her fine overall performance that Mutangadura’s times were faster in all four events than any other girls’ in the national meet, including those in the 17 and over age group.

In particular, her 30.44s butterfly and 32.14s backstroke were her strongest strokes and they indicate great promise for this young Zimbabwean swimmer as she enters the world stage.

Mutangadura achieved similar times at the South African Level 3 Age Group Championships earlier this year.
On Saturday in the October heat in Mutare, she was well ahead of the rest of the pack she swam a 29.03s race in the 50m freestyle and 38.41 in the 50m breaststroke to bring home four gold medals.

The Boys and Girls competed simultaneously as individuals and for their clubs in five age groups ranging from 10 and under to 17 and over in the electronically-timed meet.
Sharks of Harare took the overall team top score of 160 points with Otters coming in a close second with 146 and Highlands finished third with 123.

James Lawson, who recently was awarded an Olympic Solidarity grant to train for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, came first with 36 points for Pirates Club in the 17 and over age group.
Lawson, however, finished second in both 50m breast and 50m fly races to Bulawayo’s Andy Cyprianos affiliated with Penguins Club, who had an overall 32 points.

Andy’s younger brother Brendon Cyprianos, came took the honours in the 15-16 year age group with 36 points while in the girls’ 17 and over category Siobhan Hoskins-Davies of Dorado Swim Club came led the standings with 34 points, four ahead of Arundel School swimmer Sarah Hawgood who was swimming for Pirates club.
