PREPARATIONS for next year’s National Paralympic Games are set to go into full swing following the unveiling of the Local Organising Committee in Harare yesterday.
The committee, which is headed by chief executive Nathaniel Madzivanyika, was presented to the Minister of State for Harare province, Miriam Chikukwa, at a media conference called by the Zimbabwe National Paralympics.

Madzivanyika said the preparations for the Games have started and they have already formed a committee.

The committee will be responsible for protocol, publicity, transport, accommodation, catering, accreditation, fundraising/resource mobolisation, venues, finance, medical, administration, results compilation, ceremony, venue dressing, marketing, official welfare, entertainment, inter ministerial, security, victory ceremony and logistics.

“We were looking at the local organising committee for the Paralympic Games to be hosted by Harare in 2015.

“We want to induct the appointees for various businesses so that we have a successful hosting of the Games in 2015.

“Since the Games rotate from one place to the other, they are meant to involve the participation of all the physically challenged people in Zimbabwe,” said Madzivanyika.

Chikukwa urged the committee to work as one unit.

“Mr Madzivanyika and other officials came to me and said there was a committee and I thought there is no need to change it,” said Chikukwa.

“But what he should advise you, the committee, is that as the head, I am a hard worker. I can attend four functions in a day.

“So, if I can work I expect any other person to work not for money but for the good of our nation.

“As Harare Province we house Parliament, we house the President, we are a capital city so we should work hard together and remain united.

“Let us help one another so that Harare will be the best.

“I know we can do it and if there is anything you need as a committee feel free to come to me,” said Chikukwa. Sports Commission director for sports development, Joseph  Muchechetere,  said  organising the Games involves a lot of work.
