Zanu-PF should continue with its empowerment programmes to consolidate Zimbabwe’s independence, a party official has said.
The party’s vice chairperson for Zvimba District Co-ordinating Committee, Cde Crispen Kadoza, said this while addressing scores of party supporters at a restructuring exercise on Sunday.
He reiterated that political independence was meaningless unless indigenous people controlled over the country’s natural resources.
“We fought the liberation struggle and won it but that is not enough until we have total control of our resources.
“We must show the world that we are people with a vision and who can decide their own destiny without external interference,” he said. Cde Kadoza urged party members to be wary of neo-colonialism.
“The West is at work to try to recolonise our country and we should be always alert. There are some of our colleagues who are lost and it is our duty to recall them to their mother party – Zanu-PF.
“As a party we should go out and educate people who were hoodwinked by the MDC formations. We cannot allow recolonisation of our country through the MDCs,” he said.
Zvimba DCC secretary for indigenisation and economic empowerment, Cde Francis Mukwangwariwa, said all eligible party members should be registered voters.
“Our members should buy membership cards and make sure that their names are on the voters’ roll.
“It will not be useful to have thousands of people here but when it comes to the elections we only see a few people who are registered.
“Our party structures should be checked and kept intact to avoid infiltration by our enemies,” he cautioned.
Cde Mukwangwariwa said Zanu-PF’s commendable track record spoke for itself and the party could not be compared to any other party in Zimbabwe.
“Zanu-PF fought the liberation struggle and empowered people through the land reform programme. It cannot be compared to MDC-T which is a franchise of the American and the British,” he said.
He urged party members to remain united ahead of elections scheduled for later this year and bury the MDCs once and for all.
Zanu-PF is on a countrywide restructuring.
