KARATE coach Winston Nyanhete feels that without adequate support it will be difficult for the local teams to fully exploit the talent they have when competing in regional and international competitions. Zimbabwe hosted the Africa Union Sports Council Region Five championships on Saturday with Botswana, South Africa and Namibia taking part.

Zimbabwe came third with 45 medals behind winners South Africa, who clinched 85 medals. Botswana were second after amassing 77 medals. Namibia settled for fourth position with 30 medals.

Zambia sent in their athletes but they arrived late for the competition and did no compete. Nyanhete, who was one of the coaches for Team Zimbabwe, said there was need to support national teams when they compete in such events if the country is to be successful.
