Matabeleland North Governor and resident Minister Cde Sithokozile Mathuthu, has said.
In an interview last night, Cde Mathuthu said: “The body will be taken to Binga on Tuesday morning before proceeding to Harare.

“The body will lie in state in Harare before burial at the National Heroes Acre on Wednesday.”
She said the conferment of national hero status had been done late on Friday when other authorities had already left their offices.

Cde Muntanga died on Sunday last week at the Victoria Falls Medical Centre from heart complications.

He was the first Binga Member of Parliament after independence from 1980 to 1985.
Cde Muntanga was re-elected MP for the same constituency from 1995 to 2000 before retiring from politics due to ill-health.
Cde Muntanga was instrumental in the formation of Zapu structures in Binga in 1965 before becoming the party’s deputy provincial secretary in 1972.

He was banned from Binga in the same year after he was declared persona non grata.
He was detained at Wha Wha the same year.

Cde Muntanga worked for Zapu in Zambia and London until he became a member of the powerful Zipra Revolutionary Council.
He was one of the delegates at the Lancaster House Conference as well as other high-level negotiations in Geneva and Malta.
