THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe director for coaching, talent identification and development Lisimati Phakamile says they are hoping to send a big team for this year’s Africa Senior championships in South Africa.

The championships are slated for June 22 to 26 in Durban, South Africa. The NAAZ director for coaching, talent identification and development said they were expecting to send more athletes.

“Last time we had two athletes Francis Zimwara and Rodwell Ndlovu in Marrakech, Morocco in 2014. Zimwara made the finals in the 200m but unfortunately he could not compete in the final race because he had picked an injury while Ndlovu finished fifth in the 200m semi-final.

“We want to take a big team this time around. It’s an issue of distance because the team will be travelling by road, South Africa is closer to us because we have always been limited with finances. Now that the competition is close we want to send a big team.
