A Mozambican teenager last Wednesday appeared before a Chipinge court for allegedly stealing aluminium pipes worth $3 257 from a Chimanimani farmer. The accused, Trymore Munyika (18) of Madimba Village, Mozambique, along Chikukwa border appeared before Chipinge magistrate Mr Noah Gwatidzo to answer charges of stealing aluminium pipes from Dombera Farm in Chimanimani, which are valued at $3 257.

He pleaded not guilty to three counts of theft as defined in section 113 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23. Munyika was remanded in custody to October 18 when the trial is set to continue. Public prosecutor, Mr Witness Nyamundaya told the court that Munyika stole from Dombera Farm on two occasions before he was finally caught on September 12, 2017.

“On the 20th of August, this year at Dombera Farm at around 6pm a worker at the farm laid aluminium pipes in the fields and left them irrigating plants.

“The accused person was hiding in a bush nearby and waited until around 8pm when the worker left his post. He then proceeded to steal thirteen 60mm x 6mm aluminium pipes, which are valued at $1 287 and went away unnoticed. On the 5th of September at the same farm again and at the same time, Munyika waited for the irrigation worker to lay pipes while hiding in the nearby bush, as he monitored all his actions. After some time, the irrigation worker left his post to monitor another field and the accused person took advantage of that and again stole eleven 60mm x 6m aluminium pipes and left the scene unseen,” Mr Nyamundaya said.
