ZPC Kariba coach Sunday Chidzambwa has advised Shabanie Mine to try and maximise home advantage and win all their matches here to boost their chances of avoiding relegation. The legendary coach believes the Maglas pitch favours the hosts than visiting sides and they should make full use of that advantage. Chidzambwa guided ZPC Kariba to a 1-0 victory over Shabanie on Sunday and sparked unrest in the miners camp as fans demanded the head of the coaching staff.

“I think they must try to fight to stay in the league and then they build a team for next season,’’ said Chidzambwa.

“It’s not like they have been relegated or anything, they must try and stay in the top-flight league and I think it’s a very good catchment area for any team in this province so I think they have not lost it all.

“I think they have the players to survive in this league and the other thing they must do is to try and win their home games and fight for a draw in their away games. “You see the Maglas Stadium suits them, it’s a small pitch, most of the teams are not used to this small stadium, you can see we were struggling on this pitch so they must try and register victories in their home matches and try and pick a point away.

“If they lose away it doesn’t matter but they must win all the home games for them to survive the chop.’’

Chidzambwa added that it was normal in football to go through a bad spell but the most important thing was not to press the panic baton.

“In football it’s normal to go through a bad spell and sadly some people panic but we never panicked, it’s just a phase and we went through such a bad spell,’’ he said. “Look at Rhinos, they were also on top of the log, they now have suffered five defeats in a row, it’s normal in football.

“We are back on track but, unfortunately, we cannot talk of winning the league right now.’’
