A 35-year-old Harare businessman attempted to commit suicide on Monday night after stabbing his wife and employee with a knife following an argument over rent with his landlord at Mereki Shopping Centre. Davison Gondo of Hatcliffe, who is believed to have mental health challenges, owns Chisa Nyama Butchery at the shopping centre in Warren Park D.

Police said on Monday night Gondo had a misunderstanding with his landlord Mr Webster Machokoto for failing to pay his rent and electricity bills.
Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube yesterday confirmed the incident.She said following the misunderstanding, Gondo became violent accusing Mr Machokoto of causing his business’ downfall.
“When he became violent Machokoto was not present and Gondo later took a butcher knife and charged towards his employee Graim Mushonga whom he stabbed twice on the back. He also stabbed him once on the head,” Asst Insp Dube said.
His wife, Anna Tatenda Chikovanyika (26) tried to stop him from further stabbing Mushonga and was also stabbed on the left thumb.

Mushonga who is a butchery employee and Chikovanyika managed to escape, seeking for help.
Gondo is alleged to have slit his throat with the knife in an attempt to kill himself.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested him before taking him to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment under police guard. Mushonga is admitted to West End Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
Asst Insp Dube said they were still investigating the case. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old Hatcliffe man was fatally stabbed on Tuesday afternoon after he had hit a woman with a bicycle that he was pushing in the area.
Albert Tendai Mapfeka died after being stabbed on the chest and abdomen by Bongani Mawana (21) who had confronted him over the issue. The incident occurred along Domboshava Road at Dust Market at around 3pm.

It is alleged that Mapfeka who was pushing his bicycle, hit a woman and the two had an argument before she left the scene.
A few minutes later, Mapfeka was confronted by Mawana who later used an Okapi knife to stab him and he died on the spot.

Mawana was apprehended by one Lovemore Kachipanda (36) who handed him over to the police.
Asst Insp Dube confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress.
