construction of roads.
The district that is popular for wildlife conservation had become inaccessible and some areas did not even have roads.
The new acquisition is expected to improve the road networks in the district and to promote development.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony of the road-making equipment in Msasa last week, Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo urged local authorities to mobilise resources and spearhead development like what was done by Mbire.
Minister Chombo said it was the duty of municipalities and district councils to maintain road networks and to develop their own areas.
He hailed Mbire for setting a good example to other councils throughout the country.
“It is therefore imperative that councils should assume an increasingly important role in terms of road maintenance as it is the full responsibility of each council, not merely to develop, manage and maintain infrastructure but also to promote and manage development.
“Local authorities play an important role and contribute significantly towards the overall construction of the country’s roads.
“I would like to urge all local authorities to emulate what Mbire RDC has done,” he said.
