Maridadi to apply for remand removal

Court Correspondent
A Harare magistrate yesterday deferred the trial of MDC-T Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara constituency James Maridadi who stands accused of grabbing a National Railways of Zimbabwe parking ticket book to March 24 because the presiding magistrate, Mr Takunda Mtetwa, was absent at the court.

Maridadi is facing charges of un- authorised borrowing or use of property after allegedly grabbing, in a fit of rage, a parking ticket book worth $2,50 from a National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) salesman.

He is on $100 bail.

The legislator told the court that he would apply for removal from remand if the trial fails to continue on March 24 saying it was now taking too long.

However, the magistrate Mr Batanai Madzingira reminded the legislator that the trial was taking long because he once defaulted and was issued with a warrant of arrest.

The MDC-T legislator was supposed to appear in court for continuation of his trial on January 28 but was in no-show.
