LUSAKA. — Interim President Guy Scott has reconciled with Patriotic Front president Edgar Lungu. Dr Scott has also agreed to back Lungus’s candidature in next month’s presidential elections. The reconciliation meeting was held at State House in Lusaka on Friday evening under the auspices of Northmead Assemblies of God Bishop Joshua Banda and Saint Ignatius Parish Priest Father Charles Chilinda.

Dr Scott said the differences in the party have been resolved and the membership would now move together as a united force.

He has since called on all PF members to abide by the electoral code of conduct and rule of law during campaigns for the January 20, 2015 presidential elections.

“People were still grieving from the loss of President Michael Sata and this brought a lot of confusion in the party but we are now moving forward as one. We have now drawn a line and we are back to business as one PF,” Dr Scott said.

Lungu, who is also Justice and Defence Minister acknowledged that PF was emerging from a difficult situation following the death of the party President.

He, however, said the PF leadership had managed to pull through the difficult time, adding that the PF leadership had been meeting to resolve contentious issues.

“Some people were actually benefiting from our differences but as one family, we are now moving forward as a one force and we are tomorrow (today) proceeding with Dr Scott to address a rally in Kabwe,” Lungu said.

Lungu also stated that all PF members including Miles Sampa were working together.

Kasama Central Member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Mwamba said he would support Lungu in the January 20 presidential elections.

Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata expressed happiness that the PF was now preceding as a united force adding that unity was what his father would have wanted for the party he formed. The briefing was attended by Members of the Central Committee (MCC) and some Cabinet ministers among them Local Government and Housing Minister Emmanuel Chenda, Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili, Tourism Minister Jean Kapata and Mines Minister Christopher Yaluma.

Also present was Father Charles Chilinda and Bishop Joshua Banda.

Meanwhile, PF secretary-general Davies Chama said in a statement that Dr Scott led Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa, Mwamba, former secretary-general Bridgett Attanga and her deputy Anthony Kasolo at a reconciliatory meeting that was held at State House on Friday night.

Chama said Lungu’s group comprised Foreign Affairs Minister, Harry Kalaba, his counterpart for tourism and Arts, Jean Kapata as well as member of Central Committee, Samuel Mukupa. — Times of Zambia.
