VETERAN Zimbabwean caddie Mike Kerr will work with World number three golfer Adam Scott when the new season resumes next year. Kerr was, according to reports from the United States, given the nod after he impressed the top player when he caddied for him at the Australian Open and Australian PGA earlier this month. Kerr grew up in South Africa and competed at amateur levels alongside leading players such as Tim Clark and Rory Sabattini, and has long been a friend of Scott and most recently worked for Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen.

It will be a while before the Scott-Kerr duo begins to work, however, as the Aussie isn’t expected to tee it up competitively again until the Honda Classic set for February 26 to March 1.

Kerr has also caddied for Ernie Els, Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Scott had announced that his final five tournaments of 2014 would be used to test things with three different caddies which he did and later settled for the Zimbabwean — Kerr.

Scott had received more than 100 offers. That is not surprising given that he is a top player with a congenial personality and limited schedule.

He used Eddie Gardino at the Japan Open, Englishman David Clark at the HSBC Champions in China and the Australian Masters.

Kerr will come in to replace another veteran caddie Steve Williams who decided to retire after a 36-year run that most famously included 13 major championships with former world number one Tiger Woods.

Scott earlier this year spent 11 weeks as world number one before being deposed by Rory McIlroy.

Scott said he was delighted that Kerr has accepted his offer and looks forward to a good 2015 season.

“I’m delighted that Mike has accepted my offer and I am confident that he will be a valuable member of my team for 2015 and beyond,” Scott (34) said.

Scott split with his former caddie Williams after a three-year partnership, the pair deciding to go their separate ways with the New Zealander feeling he could no longer complete a full season schedule.

The partnership proved a great success over that time, Scott working his way out of a form slump to play some of his best ever golf, becoming the first Australian to win the Masters in 2013 before rising to number one in the world rankings.

He remained at the top for 11 weeks.

Scott and Kerr will have plenty of work to do in 2015 with the Gold Coaster at some stage needing to come to grips with a new putter as anchored strokes will be banned on tour the following year.
