Dynamos have a huge morale-booster as they troop onto the pitch today in defence of the Independence Cup after getting confirmation that their key defender Partson Jaure has been cleared to resume action in the official Premiership matches.
Jaure has been serving a seven-match ban after the PSL Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of violent conduct in a highly-charged match against Highlanders towards the end of last season.

PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele yesterday said Dynamos can now go ahead and field the player as he has served his sentence in all games sanctioned by the league, including friendly matches and cup games.

The Warriors defender had not played in competitive local matches for his club until recently when he was part of the team that beat Highlanders 2-0 in the final of the Bob@90 Super Cup.

DeMbare will face FC Platinum in the final of the Independence Cup at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon while Bosso and Harare City battle in a third place play-off in Bulawayo.

“I can confirm he has been cleared to play from now on because he has served the ban as stipulated in the judgment.

“The judgment said he was suspended for seven ‘PSL sanctioned matches’ and this may apply to all the matches that have been cleared by the league, including friendlies.

“If it had said official matches then it would have been another story altogether because there’s a difference between PSL-sanctioned matches and PSL official matches,” said Ndebele.

Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha yesterday welcomed the return of Jaure, who had missed the opening two games of the season.

The team coach Callisto Pasuwa has been juggling between Victor Kamhuka and newboy Themba Ndlovu to partner Sydney Linyama and the options will be boosted by Jaure’s return.

“We are happy Jaure is now available for selection although I am not saying he will automatically play in the Independence Cup final.

“It depends on the coaches whether they want to play him or not. It’s great news to the team because you always want to have all your full arsenal at hand. I am sure the coaches will have more options now.

“Jaure is a great player, of course I am not saying that those who have been playing in his absence are not good,” said Chikengezha.

The DeMbare executive also said the club was also expected to finalise a deal with returning striker Roderick Mutuma last night.

DeMbare want to boost their misfiring strike-force and Mutuma, who is a free agent, will start playing immediately after getting his clearance.

“We have agreed on almost everything but what is left is to sign the contract and we are waiting for his manager to come back to us.

“He has put it upfront that his services are wanted in South Africa and there should be a clause in the contract to allow him to make the move if it materialise in July. If that doesn’t happen then he is likely to stay for one year,” said Chikengezha.

Dynamos are the holders of the Independence Cup which they won last year after edging Highlanders 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium.

Organisers this year have confirmed that winners will pocket an increased prize money of US$15 000 while runners-up will walk away with US$10 000.

The bronze medallists will get US$7 000 and US$5 000 for the team that loses in the match set for Barbourfields this afternoon.

Dynamos last year took home US$10 000 for winning the Uhuru Cup.

They squeezed through to the final this year following a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Harare City.

DeMbare coach Callisto Pasuwa will be hoping for a better performance from his players especially coming from the disappointing defeat to newboys ZPC Kariba in their last league match at the same venue.

Vice-captain Tawanda Muparati, Ocean Mushure and Masimba Mambare are still out with injuries while Clive Kawinga was being monitored by the medical personnel.

FC Platinum are also battling to contain a looming crisis back home following a bad start to the season and coach Lloyd Mutasa has indicated that he needs the silverware to cool down the temperatures after his side got off to a slow start in the league marathon.

The platinum miners are coming from a 3-2 home defeat to Hwange in their second league match at Mandava.

They have one point after drawing the opening match 1-1 with Moses Chunga’s newly promoted side Chiredzi.

Mutasa, who played and coached Dynamos in his professional career, wants his charges to put behind them their troubles and concentrate on the cup game.

“We are really looking forward to this match especially coming from a defeat. We need to atone for that loss by winning the cup.

“It’s a different ball game altogether and what is key is the ability to bounce back after losing a match. I think the players will be eager for that too.

“This is a clash of two wounded lions and hopefully the best team will walk away with the win. On our part, we are preparing hard for it since it is a cup final,” said Mutasa.

The coach was in high spirits with the return of some of his key players like Daniel Veremu, Aaron Katebe, Allen Gahadzikwa and goalkeeper Francis Tizayi.

FC Platinum won the Uhuru Cup in 2012.

The teams are expected back in action on Monday when they resume their league games with Dynamos travelling to Bantu Rovers as FC Platinum date Chicken Inn in Bulawayo.
