WARRIORS midfielder Ovidy Karuru is going back to AmaZulu, but the doors remain open for a possible move.

SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates are understood to be keen on Karuru’s signature and there are reports that Kaizer Chiefs want their former player back.

“I know there were various inquiries concerning me after the COSAFA Castle Cup, but I have made a decision and I am going back to AmaZulu to negotiate a better deal,’’ he said.

“They are back in the Premiership and I know that I will shine.

“I have been working with (coach Joey) Antipas and it’s largely a family than a club. It might not be the biggest step in my career, but I feel I am a significant figure at AmaZulu.”

Antipas is the head coach at AmaZulu while his assistant is Prince Matore. Former Tsholotsho midfielder Butholezwe Ncube and Energy Murambadoro are also at AmaZulu while former CAPS United skipper Stephen Makatuka will be off-loaded ahead of the new season.

“Like I indicated before, this is a warm environment for me to flourish.

“I know AmaZulu are not a big team, but I had to consider their professionalism.

“I don’t want to join a team where I will rot on the bench. For now, I don’t want to be at a new team where I am required to familiarise with teammates and coaches.

“I have good relations with the club hierarchy and I am going to AmaZulu unless something happens.

“I want to thank (Warriors coach, Sunday) Chidzambwa for trusting me.’’

KickOff.com reported yesterday that Karuru was in big demand and said the player was open to a move elsewhere.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, who joined Usuthu in February, is in contract extension talks with the Premiership returnees, but appears to be keeping his options open.

“For now I’m still an AmaZulu player, but you never know what will happen in football,” he told them “Maybe better offers will come. I’m a breadwinner at home, so I will take the best offer on the table.

“But like I said, I still have one more year with AmaZulu and we are still negotiating (for a long-term deal). Maybe I will get two or three years, it depends on negotiations.

“I believe in myself more than I believe in others. I can feel it that I still have a lot to offer in terms of playing football.’’
