TOP Zimbabwean hockey clubs will bring the curtain down on the 2014 season when they take part in the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe Cup at Arundel High School towards the end of this month. The HAZ Cup, scheduled for September 20, will be staged just 24 hours after a new executive for the sport has been elected. The tenure for the incumbent HAZ board is coming to an end on September 19 at a meeting pencilled in for Gateway High School.

Humphrey Chigwedere, the HAZ vice-president, yesterday said notices for the general meeting have already been circulated to their stakeholders.

The sport had been operating in fits and starts and there was a low turnout at most of their activities like the league and inter-provincial matches.

Efforts by the HAZ board to get the astro-turf at Magamba repaired have failed and the venue is now more popular for church meetings while the game is also suffering from lack of funding from the depressed economy.
“This general meeting is crucial in that it is election year and will see a new executive voted into office on the day.
