We wish to advise our valued clients on the need to provide additional protection on electrical appliances from damage caused by abnormal voltage conditions which may result on either the utility’s or the customer’s network.

We urge all our clients to be proactive and avoid such losses. Whilst ZETDC is required under statutory law to regulate the supply voltage, the occurrence of abnormal voltages due to electrical faults and component thefts cannot be entirely prevented and these can occur at any time.

Such losses may not be covered by the Public Liability Insurance cover.

The measures listed below should therefore be taken to reduce the risk of damage to electrical appliances:

Physically disconnect electrical equipment when not in use. If you suspect any problem with your supply, switch off the mains and call ZETDC immediately. One typical symptom is abnormally bright lights which randomly dim and glow brighter.

There are circuit breakers available in the market place, which can be installed at the client’s own cost that will trip the incoming supply if the voltages rise above the statutory voltage limits as well as afford the usual over load protection. We recommend that these devices (preferably with earth leakage protection) be installed. Though the initial financial outlay might appear high, they will provide you with adequate protection against dangerous conditions on the incoming lines and within your own installation itself. For further advice please contact our staff or speak to a qualified electrician.

The installation of surge protection on all socket outlets is strongly recommended.

As an additional precaution, have a qualified electrician to check the quality of the earth connection of your installation. A two-metre earth rod driven into the ground and connected to the neutral in the meter board will usually provide an adequate earth connection. Have all earth connections checked at regular intervals.

Please report any suspicious characters moving around ZETDC substations with or without ZETDC uniforms and in the absence of a ZETDC vehicle. Record the vehicle registration numbers if a vehicle is involved. All our staff carry official company identity cards. Please call our 24 hour fault numbers for this purpose or contact your nearest Police Station.

Please advise any substation near you, whose doors are found open, as the likelihood is that the thieves may have already gained access.

You may contact your nearest Customer Service Centre for any further clarification.

Stay safe. Stay away. Stay alive.
