DYNAMOS team manager Richard Chihoro says their rivals should rule out the Glamour Boys from this year’s race for the title at their own peril following their victory over Harare City at the weekend. The Harare giants have had a poor start this year, but a run of three wins in succession in their previous outings has ushered them from the bottom five into the top five on the log standings.

Chihoro yesterday said DeMbare are still in it despite trailing log leaders Highlanders by nine points after 11 games. Dynamos have won successive games against Chapungu, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Harare City to take their tally to 17 points.

First half goals from Masimba Mambare and Brett Amidu gave the Glamour Boys a crucial win at Rufaro on Saturday against Moses Chunga’s Harare City. Chihoro yesterday said the championship race still has a long way to go and praised the Dynamos players for showing resilience.

“Of course, we are not there yet, but we are happy with the way things are shaping up. These wins will surely motivate the boys going forward. We needed something like this. “We did not do well this season and it seemed everyone was looking down on us. So it’s great we have started winning. We have to be ruthless, we don’t have to look back,” said Chihoro.

He also praised the Glamour Boys rookies who have been making the starting line up in most of their games of late. On Saturday, coach Lloyd Mutasa threw into the fray three rookies — King Nasama, Musa Madhiri and Kudzanayi Nyakasaka — to spearhead their attack ahead of veterans like Roderick Mutuma, Richard Kawondera, Farai Mupasiri and Kelvin Bulaji.

“I think our team is well balanced between youth and experience. We are fully utilising the slots for the five juniors and the youngsters are doing well. The youngsters have energy and pace.

“They are also gaining confidence with each and every outing because if you look at a player like King Nasama in action you would think he has been playing for a year, yet he has started just few games.

“We have played them three games and we are seeing the results. So this has helped create competition in the team and we feel it’s good if we keep giving them game time,” said Chihoro.

City coach Moses Chunga was not happy with the defeat and he ordered his boys back to training a day earlier than normal with fitness training at a local gym. “It did not go according to plan as we conceded too early in the match. If we had managed to hold on longer without conceding, we stood a better chance of doing better.

“But that is football, you win some and lose some. I am, however, happy with the progress made by the team. We will continue to work and fight, not only for points, but quality of our play,” said Chunga.

Highlanders maintained their place at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over ZPC Kariba. Adrian Silla scored the goal to give take highlanders tally to 26 points after 11 matches. However, CAPS United managed to keep pressure on the leaders with a 2-1 win over newboys Bulawayo City at the National Sports Stadium. Makepekepe are just two points behind.

Veteran Leonard Tsipa and Simba Nhivi scored for the Green Machine while Innocent Kutsanzira got the consolation for the visitors, who dropped two places to eight in the table with 14 points.

Meanwhile, Dynamos were again plunged into mourning after one of their supporters Patience Murefu succumbed to injuries from the road accident that claimed the lives of her colleagues a fortnight ago. Murefu had been admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital for the past two weeks.
