We are going to look at chapter 8 of the book of Proverbs and give you a bit of what is happening in the first verses of that chapter, explaining what wisdom is all about, what it can do and to make you see the characteristics of wisdom and how it relates to us.

The ability that wisdom has to talk and spell out her feelings. I will be talking to you on some sensitive details that require you to have an alert spirit.

Proverbs 8; 1-4: “Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.”

When you look closely at the verses you will see that this is not a person or a prophet or a preacher talking to us about wisdom, but this is wisdom herself communicating with us. She talks about how we cannot do anything without her. What I want you to understand is that wisdom is a person not a force or a spirit that comes upon a person. It’s not just divine reasoning like we said before. Wisdom is beyond thinking, it’s beyond all that, wisdom is a personality.

We want to pay attention to what wisdom is about to say. In this case she is speaking, standing on top of the roofs and mountains. Crying out to the sons of men so that they would pay attention to her. Not knowing whether the people are going to respond, but she keeps on crying. I like verse 3 which says “She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.”

She is standing at the gates. So wisdom is a person and before you enter into any fruitful place you have to pass through wisdom because then it is wisdom who gives you understanding on how to operate in the city. Before you enter into the city you have to negotiate and have a relationship with wisdom.

Cities are there right in front of us, good life is ahead of us, but before you enter there is wisdom calling out to the sons of man. Would you want to enter into the city without wisdom?

Your life can never become as beautiful as that city if you do not have wisdom. Create a relationship with wisdom. She is right at the door and you have to have a relationship with wisdom.

That is the only way you can start to live a city life. Before you start anything get wisdom, before marriage, before business, before everything.

Verse 17 says,“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”

She has to be found at the gate, anything you want to do find wisdom. Who is speaking here? Its wisdom saying,“Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.”

When we were growing up we were told riches make one evil, and the two, riches and righteousness cannot go together.

Wisdom is saying I have both, riches and righteousness. A person can be as rich as they want to be and be as righteous as God wants him to be.

It’s difficult for our people to understand that a person can be rich and righteous. The more prosperous you get, the more people begin to suspect you, but wisdom is clearly saying you can have both.

When you have wisdom you have honour, riches, and righteousness. She compares more on the subsequent verse, My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

This is not a demon, but wisdom saying if you love me I will cause you to inherit substance. I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on you because what I will say will require more energy from you. Look closely at the wording of the verse, “Wisdom can cause a person to inherit substance and cause filling of treasures.” This is more than just enough, this is plenty. I will fill up your treasures and still this is wisdom.

Let us be fair and look at the opposite where there is no inheritance of substance and where your treasures are empty it’s a sign of wisdom’s absence.

Wisdom is saying I cannot be in your life and your treasures are not full. How do you know its wisdom? When am I going to stop asking God for wisdom? Can I hear her voice? How do I know? I find myself being caused by her to inherit substance, you begin to see material things coming to you. It’s a force that comes upon you and you will know she is around.

This may sound to be a very stubborn statement, but is very correct according to what we are talking about here.

“Poverty is simply the absence of wisdom” because she has just told us what she will do when she is around. If wisdom comes upon a person the person will automatically begin to inherit substance and she will cause the person to realise plenty.

Equally, when wisdom comes upon a nation and is operating that nation will begin to inherit substance and the treasures of that nation will be filled up by wisdom. So what really do we need now? Wisdom!

I gave you three types of wisdom last week. Godly, earthly and satanic wisdom. Godly wisdom is what we are talking about. I am not talking about conflicting wisdom. There is a type of wisdom that is so much into conflict with the wisdom of God. This is the wisdom of Satan and I am going to explain to you how we can manage and survive the conflict between the two. When these two are fighting and you are caught in between how do you survive? There is a continuous conflict where the wisdom of God is being fought by Satan.

You have to understand the earthly wisdom, but that is not all you need in life. I will give you this example about school, it was a response to the fallen nature because before Adam fell there was no need for him to go to school. He had divine knowledge and spiritual understanding. How could one man be able to give names to all these creatures before he could even attend Grade One.

Which means knowledge was already available and he was operating under a serious Heavenly wisdom which was contaminated by sin. When men then fell, there was need for him to be trained. There was need to be enrolled and taught by another person. Education was a response to the fallen nature. It’s a fallen syllabus, it can never be perfect. We are here to learn, it was a reaction to the fallen nature.

Education cannot be 100 percent success, it’s impossible because it is as a result of a fallen mind. Education was never thought of before man fell which means man had to fall first. Education was an afterthought.

The wisdom of God which was perfect, was corrupted and as a nation no matter how educated we are that level of education can never offer us that which we are crying for. What we need now cannot be found in the wisdom of this world.

Man was already corrupt when he devised a strategy to deal with corruption, it’s like a man who is out of his mind and you take him into the pharmacy to take the best medication for his condition.

We never thought of education before the fall, it was after the fall. We need the wisdom of God.
