LONDON. – The infamous “Chosen One” banner dedicated to David Moyes has been removed from Old Trafford following his sacking on Tuesday.  It was only a matter of time but Stretford End Flags, the Manchester United fans’ group that picks the banners which adorn the stadium, announced the news yesterday via their Twitter account.
It was put up at the start of the season to highlight that Sir Alex Ferguson had selected Moyes as his successor, but as United’s season went sour, the banner was used by his own fans to deride him and by opposition supporters to mock him.

A rival supporters’ group organised a plane to fly past with the message “The Wrong One” to counter the banner at the Stretford End.

Despite a decent enough start to his Old Trafford tenure, with wins in the Community Shield and on the opening day of the Premier League season at Swansea, Moyes seemed out of his depth for large parts of the campaign.

Old Trafford, for so long a fortress, became little more than a guest house, as West Brom, Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham, Man City and Liverpool all left the Theatre of Dreams with maximum points.

Just 24 points have been mustered at home, the same as Norwich, and less than the likes of Stoke City and Crystal Palace.

Ryan Giggs has made his first change as interim Manchester United manager by moving the club’s Press conferences back to where Sir Alex held his weekly meetings.

Giggs, who will take charge of the Red Devils for the remainder of the season following Moyes’ sacking, has moved the meetings back to the club’s academy building at their Aon Training Complex.

In addition, the 40-year-old club legend will also hold them at 9.30am on Fridays – the exact same time and place where Ferguson presided them during many years of his tenure.

Under Ferguson’s successor Moyes, they had been moved to a smaller room that was more personable where the various Press would move in and out of.

Giggs addressed his Manchester United players on Wednesday and delivered the message that he wants them to return to their old attacking ways in the post Moyes era.

The Welshman has told the squad he wants them to start playing like Manchester United again, and to start pressing teams and dictating games like they did under Sir Alex Ferguson.
