CARGO Carriers coach Tendai Chapfika is a happy man after his side grabbed their first win of the season in the Northern Region Division One soccer league over the weekend when they dismissed Karoi United 2-1 at GMB Aspindale.

The newboys drew their opening match before they lost in the second week but it appears they are now settling in the tough Northern Region Division One.

They turned the tables on Saturday to win against visiting Karoi United, who had taken the lead in the 21st minute.

Karoi scored through Allan Zitheletu but Cargo Carriers staged a comeback as they got two goals from Prince Chitombo and Lisbon Matomati to collect maximum points.

Chapfika said his side was still adjusting to life in the First Division.

“My guys are still learning but they are improving now. I am happy with the way they played on Saturday.

“They (Karoi) were the first to score but I told my guys not lose heart because they were starting to panic.

“The victory boosted their confidence and they were really happy after the match, I think they are finally getting it.

“I am hoping they will maintain the fine form. I think that is our best game so far,” said Chapfika.

For Karoi United, Saturday’s defeat left coach Luckson Phiri a disappointed man as he said they have been repeating the same mistakes.

“Saturday was not so good, after leading in the 21st minute, unfortunately, I was sitting for my exam in Chinhoyi and I only watched the last five minutes of the game.

“Our first two games were good only for us to lose concentration in the last minutes in both games.

“I think for now we are missing that determination or that courage to say that we can make it until the end of the match.

“If we get under pressure from our opponents there is that tendency to panic . . . we need to work on that,” said Phiri.

The match between Ngezi Platinum and ZRP Morris was called off after the police side forgot their player licences and the board is set to make a determination on the game.

The cancellation of the match saw high-flying newboys Herentals moving one place up on the table into pole position after taking over from Ngezi Platinum.

Former Premiership side Black Rhinos also seem to be doing well and on Saturday they dismissed Darwin 2-0 to join the top teams on the log table.

They are now second on the log.
