A 45-year-old Harare bishop reportedly raped a church member whom he made believe that she was possessed by evil spirits transmitted into her by her husband. Danmore Magorimbo of Abundant Life Global Ministries Church in Belvedere and his accomplice Leeshallow Kambiro (27), yesterday appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Milton Serima charged with rape.

Magorimbo of Greystone Park and Kambiro of Kuwadzana Extension were both remanded in custody to November 11.

According to the State, in April this year Magorimbo called the woman from the prayer room into his office where he claimed that he wanted to conduct a cleansing ceremony after informing her that she was possessed by some evil spirits.

Magorimbo told the woman that she had received the evil spirits from her husband after being intimate with him and that she should be intimate with him in order for her to be delivered.

He informed her that God had told him that she could only be delivered by being intimate with him.

The Bishop raped the woman once.

The following day, it is alleged that Magorimbo called the woman to the church for a prayer session which was to be conducted in the presence of Kambiro who is the ministries’ intercessor.

Magorimbo prayed for the woman and told her that Kambiro was now connected with the spirit of the truth.

Kambiro informed the woman that it was God who had commissioned Magorimbo to be intimate with her in order for her to be cleansed and that she should accept and rejoice since she had been favoured by God like Mary in the Bible.

It is alleged that Kambiro also told her that she should not do anything that will harm the “man of God” or even try to manipulate him after what had happened to her.
