Senior Minister of State in the President’s Office Simon Khaya Moyo has urged the Zimbabwe Republic Police to be vigilant in safeguarding the country’s hard won independence.Speaking at a pass-out parade of 205 police officers on Thursday, Cde Khaya Moyo commended the Zimbabwe Republic Police for supporting the Zimbabwe Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset). “The obtaining peace and tranquillity in our country is testimonial to the organisation’s determination towards the success of the Government’s five-year economic plan.

“Importantly, I am also aware that the ZRP has embraced the Results Based Management system (RBM) as a way of mainstreaming a result-based performance culture in the organisation in conformity with the requirements of Zim-Asset,” he said. Minister Khaya Moyo challenged other Government departments and stakeholders to emulate the ZRP.

He said Government was aware that shortage of resources was affecting the operations of ZRP.

“However, the economic challenges that are currently being faced should not provide an alibi for inertia, sluggishness, lethargy and malperformance by anybody in the civil service, police included.

“Thus, let me enjoin all police officers to efficiently and effectively carry out their constitutional mandate without fear or favour,” Minister Khaya Moyo said.

He said Government would not tolerate acts of corruption by the police as this tarnished the image of the force. Minister Khaya Moyo urged the graduands to display a high degree of discipline and conduct at their respective stations.

“Moreover, if you uphold the values of your profession and live up to the requirements of the oath of allegiance which you took on the day of your attestation, you will no doubt succeed in your career,” he said.
