All set for Sunday’s karting meet

THIS Sunday sees the fourth national race meeting of the Harare Karting Club at Donnybrook Raceway. With just two national meetings left in the season after Sunday, the adrenalin is pumping and the racing is tight as the drivers’ battle towards the honours awaiting them at the end of the season.

In the Senior/Masters class, Brendon McConnell, driving a Birel, has a clear lead over Muller Ferreira (also piloting a Birel). Brett Olsen trails in third in his TonyKart. Other drivers to watch in this class are Rob Weston, Lionel Rousseau and Maurizio Savo.

In the junior class, it is a battle of the rookies, with Bella Savo (12) leading Keegan Davie (12) – both of who are racing their first season in this class. Rogan Hoffmans is a steady third in his Birel kart. Watch out for an upset in the order though, as Keegan Davie has only driven in two out of the three national races and is in close striking distance of taking the lead in this class despite his disadvantage of having missed the first national meeting.

The MiniRok class provided the closest racing at the last meeting, with Cameron Revolta (11), driving a TonyKart with the Team Swift outfit and Zac Dufty (10) of Zac Attack Racing driving his Zanardi kart posting very similar times. Danica Hockey (11), also with Team Swift, is driving well in her maiden race year and is currently third. Youngsters in the Cadet class are led by Luke Rousseau in his Allkart. Currently, there is a tie for second, with Michael Lanca and David Mliswa both on 32 points. Just two points behind them is Michael Perkins.

Racing starts at 11am on Sunday at Donnybrook Raceway, on the Arcturus Road. Entrance is US$5 per car.
