TWO suspected armed robbers were shot dead during a shoot-out with the police on Sunday evening in Kadoma.

The two suspects were part of an eight-man gang that was on the police wanted list for committing a spate of robberies in and around Kadoma.

One of the suspects died on the spot while the other died a few hours after admission at a local hospital.

Police recovered four pistols following the shooting incident, which are believed to have been used to commit robberies.

Although the details were still sketchy yesterday, sources said eight armed robbers who were armed with seven pistols went to DCK Shopping Centre in Kadoma where they targeted a supermarket.

Detectives had already received information from the public about the suspects’ plans and waylaid them.

The robbers were then ambushed by the police resulting in a shoot-out.

Two of the robbers were shot while the other six escaped and police have since launched a manhunt for them, as investigations on the case continue.

In November last year, police arrested eight robbers — believed to have committed a spate of armed robberies in the city, following a shoot-out in New Tafara, Harare.

Police recovered three firearms, a pellet gun and 359 rounds of ammunition from the robbers who were identified as Ephraim Malcom Matiza (22), Benjamin Musasa (27), Roy Majunga (27), Taurai Fandai (24), Jonathan Muchemwa (31), Trust Misolo (27), Jonathan Mwale (30) and Mostapha Ngunda (36).

Police received information and went to New Tafara, where they picked up one of the accused, Malcom who implicated Benjamin and Roy.

The two were arrested at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex while parking their cars next to each other and they implicated Taurai, Muchemwa and Mwale.
