CAPS United midfielder Hardlife Zvirekwi has called for calm and thrown his support behind embattled coach Taurai Mangwiro as the race for the championship enters the home stretch. This comes against a background where a section of CAPS United supporters revolted on Sunday and demanded the resignation of head coach Mangwiro. Zvirekwi, who is the Population Services International ambassador, was part of the launch of the NASH under-20 soccer tournament at Prince Edward yesterday.
The midfielder said he believes the supporters should be patient as the coach has not yet failed in his bid to clinch the championship.

“I think the events which took place at Rufaro on Sunday are so disturbing, especially targeting a coach of Tau’s calibre,” said Zvirekwi.
“The supporters should be patient and see how we perform in the coming games.

“We have several tough encounters as we are still to face Highlanders very soon so it is not the right time to tamper with the technical team.
“We need to be patient as we are still in the race and we can manage to capture the league if we remain focused,” he said.

Zvirekwi believes the race is still open and any team in the top four has a chance to capture the championship.
“Everyone plays to win and even the coach, I am sure, will not at any time celebrate a loss as it is his CV which can be tarnished,” said Zvirekwi.

“Everyone needs results and the coach always demands that in all our games so I think it is not the good time to witness what happened at Rufaro on Sunday.”
The Sunday game pitting CAPS United and How Mine ended goalless and some fans fought running battles with the police as they demanded the resignation of Mangwiro.
Some fans also targeted board member Nhamo Tutisani during the club’s Cup game against FC Platinum at Mandava.

Tutisani, to his credit, has maintained his silence.
Other fans, on social media sites, feel CAPS United president, Twine Phiri, is to blame for what has been happening at the club in recent weeks after the bad run coincided with a revolt by players who were demanding their dues.

Zvirekwi praised PSI for sponsoring youth football.
“I think it is good that the Under-20 teams are getting this kind of sponsorship, which will provide a ground for scouts.
“There is a lot of talent in schools and this gives exposure to several players from throughout the country as the competition draws players from all the schools,” said Zvirekwi.
