THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) is seeking to increase the level of tax payment in Manicaland in a bid to reduce the burden on a few individuals and companies that are paying their taxes. The initiative is in line with Government’s Vision 2030 to attain a middle income economy.

The tax authority has since embarked on a campaign to educate people on the need to pay tax. The campaign will involve road show exhibitions and awareness campaigns.
Zimra chief corporate communications officer Ms Inzwirashe Muwonwa last week said the campaign is not only vital for the authority, but for the growth of the national economy as well.

“This campaign will improve the rate at which taxpayers respond towards tax payment which is key towards attaining a better economy as a country considering that the Finance and Economic Development Minister (Prof Mthuli Ncube) was very clear on the importance of tax payment for economic transformation.

“The overall goal of this campaign is voluntary tax compliance which will be realised through timely payments. The campaign provides comprehensive tax education and information that promotes partnership and voluntary compliance with the aim of making taxpayers more knowledgeable on the importance of paying taxes,”she said.

Zimra has held campaigns at Meikles Park, Sakubva Bus Terminus and Forbes Border Post. Ms Muwonwa said the turnout in Manicaland was great, which was a sign that more people were willing to learn.
