ZIMPAPERS will this morning officially launch a new Internet-based product called Sportszone which will carry all major sporting stories. The website www.sportzone.co.zw is meant to complement the coverage of sport by the stable’s print editions that include The Herald, Chronicle, The Sunday Mail, Sunday News, Manica Post, H-Metro, B-Metro, Kwayedza and Star FM.

The website has been on a trial run for a month but will officially be launched today at the Rainbow Towers’ Jacaranda Room, starting at 7am.

The site will carry live updates, breaking news, interviews, schools sport, minority sports, women’s sport and international updates with the aim of providing news in real time.

Sportszone editor Augustine Hwata added that they will soon be carrying out columns on sporting disciplines such as boxing, body building and tennis that, at times, do not make it into the print editions.

“This is good because it is interactive with the readers who can then post feedback and get to read other stories that might not have made it into our print editions.

“We are now in the digital era where at anytime, anywhere one can get to know what is happening around the world from their mobile phones, tablets, laptops and other gadgets. This shows we are a step ahead in terms of giving out news because we also have other digital platforms that include social media like Facebook and Twitter and this webpage is also a platform where our readers will also access video clips,” said Hwata.
