EXACTLY a week after their male counterparts failed to make it for the Olympics, the Zimbabwe women’s Sevens rugby side are in Ireland chasing the same dream as they aim to grab the only remaining ticket for the Summer Games. It is, however, not going to be easy for the Charity Mucucuti-captained side as they were drawn in a tough Group A with Samoa, Russia and fellow Africans Madagascar.

Zimbabwe get their Olympic qualifier play-off campaign with a date against a tough Samoa at the University College Dublin where only one of the 16 teams in the competition will make it to the Rio 2016

One of the core values of rugby is respect, and that is what the Zimbabwe women’s Sevens rugby team is asking for and rookie Rumbidzai Chigumbu feels they will finish among the top teams.

“Please do not look down upon us because we are putting in a lot of effort in our race to the Olympics. We will definitely come back home with some silverware,” said Chigumbu.
