Zimbabwe will continue to learn on how best to turn around its economic fortunes from successful countries world over who have made it, the president of the Senate Cde Mable Chinomoma has said.

Speaking after a courtesy call by Russian Ambassador Mr Nikolai Krasilnikov at Parliament Building yesterday, Cde Chinomona said it was important for Zimbabwe, through its Parliament to take a leaf from other nations towards economic renaissance.

“We have to share notes with other countries on how they made it and Parliament stands for that,” she said.

“In their country, they have a Parliament, so we were discussing about how they are doing about their social and economic development so that we share notes and exchange minds and know what is happening in other parts of the world as we try to grow our economy.

“We were privileged to be briefed on what the Russian Parliament is doing concerning the growth of their economy since we want to share with every country which has grown the economy. We should know what is happening in other countries.’’

Cde Chinomona said in her discussions with the Ambassador Krasilnikov, they explored a number of areas for potential cooperation.

She said Zimbabwe received large number of tourist from Russia, hence the Government had eased visa requirements for Russians intending to visit Zimbabwe.

“We receive so many tourists from Russia, we have relaxed their requirement of visas, they get them at the point of call when they get at the entry point, this is where they get their visas, as we encourage more tourists from Russia,’’ she said.

Ambassador Krasilnikov said legislators globally continued to play an important role in development of nations, hence calling for increased multi interaction between parliaments on nations.

“I am very grateful to honourable Chinomona for sharing with me how to continue dialogue between our two brotherly nations through Parliament interaction, thereby increasing our bilateral cooperation in all spheres,’’ he said.

“Legislators have been playing a more and more important role in the development of nations in the modern world through multi interaction in various spheres of life and maintaining dialogue between nations.’’

Ambassador Krasilnikov said his visit was also to let Parliament of Zimbabwe know current developments between Russia and Ukraine.

“I also had the opportunity to brief her on the latest developments around special military operations by Russia in Donbas, Ukraine, and in response I received an expression of solidarity with Russia’s protecting of its national interest and countering the collective efforts of the West against Russia and other sovereign and independent states,’’ he said.
