BOWLS Zimbabwe have been awarded the privilege to host this year‘s International Quadrangular Bowls Series scheduled for July in Bulawayo.

The four-day series is expected to start on July 30 to August 2 and it will be played at four different venues.

Bowls Zimbabwe president Malcolm Evans told The Herald yesterday, that this will be their first time to be accorded an opportunity of hosting the series, which in the past had been the preserve of South Africa and Namibia.

“This will be our first time to host this event. We are all excited and are looking forward to host this prestigious series.

“The Zimbabwe team took part at last year’s Quadrangular and their performance was good. It will be good if we can take the home advantage and do well again.

“We have just finished the Zimbabwe Nationals and our performance was great, we had a lot of competition from all the players. We had Zimbabwe’s youngest bowler Anotidaishe Chilundo who is 11 taking part representing City Bowling Club and so it was good.

“Bowling is becoming interesting and we see a lot of players taking part, young and old. We have selected the teams which will represent us and we just hope for the best,” said Evans.

Zimbabwe squad will have to tough competition from South Africa and Namibia.

Last year, the South Africans were represented by two teams, their senior side and the juniors while Zimbabwe proved strong in the men’s competitions.
