A Zimbabwean medical student, Mufaro Pazvakavambwa, has been elected vice president of the Association of International Students (AIS) in Russia.

Pazvakavambwa, who recently finished her third year under the Presidential Scholarship, comes from Chinhoyi.

In a telephone interview with The Herald, the 24-year-old said the association represents foreign students in the east European country.

“I recently got elected the vice president of African countries in my city, Novosibirsk.  The association aims to help foreign students adapt in Russia and we work alongside the government and  universities.

“So, most of the events that we might decide to partake in have the assistance of the government,” she said.

She urged students on Presidential Scholarship to soldier on for the betterment of the families and the entire nation despite the challenges that they face in foreign lands that include segregation and racism.
