ZIMBABWE rugby players, Victor Mupunga and Kudakwashe Chipunza, have joined South African side Raiders for the forthcoming season.

The two are under Athletes Sphere Management and have both signed one-year contracts with the Johannesburg side.

Mupunga, a promising 20-year-old prop, was playing for Harare Sports Club and this represents a giant step in a promising career which began with Churchill’s Bulldogs.

Gerald Sibanda, Athletes Sphere Management founding president, believes the players will make an instant impact for the club which is a feeder to Vodacom Super Rugby League side Emirates Lions.

“Mupunga is destined for greatness and he is having the opportunity to make it,’’ said Sibanda. “I have three players who have joined Raiders as we continue to promote our brand.

“It is good that we have managed to seal the deals in time for the upcoming season.”

Sibanda, a former Zimbabwe speedy winger who played in South Africa, Scotland and Romania among other countries, is hopeful all his players will be an instant hit at their new clubs.

“Besides Mupunga, we also have another prop, Chipunza, who has experience having played in South Africa’s Western Province as well as American, Steven Knight, who has decided to come on board.

“The day I signed them I knew they were the right stuff for ASM. They represent everything we stand for — humility, hard work and success.”
