BIG names in Zimbabwe dancehall had a good day in the office while newcomers had a tough time at the inaugural Dancehall Overdrive anniversary held at Harare Gardens on Saturday.
Thousands of youths turned up for the event that lasted throughout the night.
Even the rain that had soaked Harare early in the day could not deter revellers from the much-hyped event.

The show, which was aired live on Star FM between 8pm and 9pm, saw artistes from different parts of the country taking                                     part.
Godfather Templeman showed why he is regarded as one of the best emcees in the country when he kept the crowd entertained during the intervals.

Artistes who performed showed that Zimbabwe dancehall is not all about beefs, drug abuse and self-praise as they churned out songs that were morally uplifting and encouraging.

Little-known artistes such as General Waspy, Jazzman and Chatsman kicked off the show entertaining people with their lyrical prowess.
However, it was Dee Flex who upped the tempo with his yesteryear hits such “Tsaona” and “Mhamha” that proved to be popular with many youths.

It must be noted, however, that puberty has had its toll on his voice as it has deepened in contrast to the sharp childish voice he had when he was still a student a few years ago.

General Waspy, who travelled all the way from Gweru, also had a good day in the office. Dressed like an Arabian sheikh, the chanter rose to the occasion showcasing his freestyles.

However, the crowd grew impatient when established artistes such as Shinsoman, Freeman, Guspy Warrior and Dadza Dee took a long time to come on stage.

They started raining missiles on little- known artistes forcing them off the stage. Some of the artistes such as Final Warning ended up not performing.

Dadza D was probably the toast of the night as he gave a scintillating performance that left many fans in awe.
The Chitungwiza-born artiste is fast becoming a household name in Zimbabwe dancehall music. The crowd could not have enough of him. Another artiste who gave a brilliant performance was Killah T.
