United Arab Emirates based Zimbabwean author and song-writer Zvakwana Nomore Sweto successfully launched his book, “Marriage in the 21st Century”, in United Arab Emirates.

The book, which will be available in Zimbabwe next week, will also be republished and printed here.

In an interview with The Herald Insight, Sweto said the increase in divorce cases in Zimbabwe inspired him to pen down the book.

“Marriages are no longer valued in the same way they were in the 80s and 90s. Divorce is now common, fashionable and it is our duty as authors and inspirational speakers to educate the younger generation. The book is not biased towards a Christian marriage only but caters for everyone. It is a guide towards successful marriage life,” he said.

He said the book can assist couples to maintain their vows.

“It encompasses areas which are affecting today’s generation in marriage.

“Some major areas discussed in this book include conflict, resolution, divorce, remarrying, sex, children and managing long distance marriages,” he said.

Sweto, a journalist by profession, said he was working with a local publishing company who will distribute the book in churches, shops and various institutions.

“I have also engaged entrepreneur and YALI coordinator Takemore Mazuruse and his wife to assist in Zimbabwe in the distribution process together with a local publishing company I am still in talks with.  The book will act as a counselling guide hence the church should play a pivotal role in the project,” he said.

Sweto said his personal, marriage life also was at one time not rosy. But he managed to put some of the principles he learnt and experienced, helping him to where he is now.

“My personal experience made me write this book. I repeat, what you will read is true. I am a divorcee,” he said.

Born in Shurugwi in a family of eight, Sweto attended Pakame Primary School and Zengeza High in Chitungwiza.

He worked for the Salary Services Bureau for about six years before making a bold decision to venture and pursue his dreams of writing.
