Zifa decision on coach today John Phiri

ZIFA, who are running behind time to start preparations for the 2017 African Cup of Nations assignment against Guinea next month, are expected to announce the identity of the coach who will be in be charge of that match this afternoon. Last night, ZIFA board members John Phiri, Fungai Chihuri and Jonathan Mashingaidze met with the handlers of Callisto Pasuwa to try and resolve issues that forced the gaffer to quit his job as Warriors’ coach.

ZIFA want Pasuwa to remain in his job.

The mother body is racing against time and is trying to ink a contract with Pasuwa so that he can name the squad for the September 6 tie and begin the preparations for the game against Guinea.

Yesterday, Phiri refused to shed much light on what transpired in the meeting and said they will announce their position this afternoon as they have to advise the rest of the board members and the Association president Cuthbert Dube. “Unfortunately, we cannot reveal the contents of the meeting as we have to report to the board first and we will have an emergency meeting tomorrow with the president and we can only issue out a statement after that meeting,” said Phiri. ZIFA last week said they have found a sponsor who has agreed to cater for the coach’s upkeep, which includes providing a car, and Mashingaidze said they will only reveal finer details after the crucial meeting with Pasuwa and his management.

There has been a lot of speculation over Pasuwa’s next destination.
