National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the incident.

“The youths informed the police and Hector Tichaona Chikowore was arrested,” he said.

Chief Supt Nyathi said police would not hesitate to arrest anyone found on the wrong side of the law and those with behaviours likely to incite violence.

In April, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri said the force would descend with full force on malcontents bent on fanning violence before, during and after the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Speaking during the conferment of ranks to newly promoted senior officers in Harare, Comm-Gen Chihuri said violence would not be tolerated during the harmonised elections to be held by July 31.

“The forthcoming national plebiscite requires that you exercise your duties with assertiveness, conviction and boldness without fear or favour,” Comm-Gen Chihuri said.
